Tire Amnesty Day in Louisa County
Nov. 8, 2021 10:41 am
The Louisa County Transfer Station in cooperation with Louisa County Conservation is holding a Tire Amnesty Day, Saturday, Nov. 20 from 9 a.m.-noon.
All residents are allowed to bring four tires- either passenger truck or car tires- to the transfer station for free. Additional tires may be disposed at the regular rate of $3 per passenger truck or car tire (up to 17-inch inside dimension) or $6 if mounted on a rim. Larger tires cost from $10-$25.
Each year hundreds of illegally dumped tires are collected from our waterways and ditches.
Tires that are not disposed of properly pose a threat to water quality in Louisa County.
Tires contain synthetic rubber produced from petroleum plus heavy metals like lead that pollute the water as they break down.
The best place for old tires is to bring them to the Louisa County Transfer Station located at 14048 70th St. just south of Wapello.
Funds to cover the cost of recycling the tires is made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation of Louisa County.
