Title I Reading and Math Programs FAQ
Questions and answers about the Schoolwide Title I programs at Lincoln Elementary in Washington, Iowa.

What is Title I?
A federally funded program to provide supplemental instruction.
What is Schoolwide Title I?
Every student in the building is considered a Title I student and may receive services.
Can I request Title I services for my child?
Parent requests for services will be considered. Students are selected to work with the Title I teachers based on the most recent data and needs as seen by the classroom and title teacher.
If my child receives Title I services, will s/he continue to receive services throughout the entire school year?
Students receiving services will change throughout the year depending on his/her needs.
How much time will my child spend in the Title I classroom?
Approximately 20 minutes in a small group daily in math and/or reading.
Will my child miss core instruction to attend Title I?
Students do not miss core classroom instruction from their teacher to receive services.
What will my child do in Title I groups?
Students will work on specific strategies to improve their math and/or reading skills.
What can I do to help my child with his/her reading?
- Encourage your child to read independently daily.
- Read with and to your child. Be non-critical. Reading should be enjoyable for both of you.
- Praise your child for his or her efforts.
- Encourage your child to use strategies to decode unknown words When they are not able to do this on their own, tell them the word.
- Model reading for enjoyment as often as possible.
What can I do to help my child with his/her math?
- Encourage your child to solve math problems at home in a fun way, like cooking or counting together.
- Use real-world math to make it more applicable, like comparing prices at the store.
- Praise your child for his/her efforts.
- Work through math together encouraging attempts over correctness.
- Model a positive attitude toward math.
