With a mischievous smile on his face, Fairfield Middle School seventh-grader Alex Helmick plays a drowning victim as John Fitzgerald, foreground, attempts a safe rescue this morning at the Roosevelt Aquatic Center. The activity was part of their gym class? swimming unit, and every student got to practice different reach assist techniques, once as the drowning victim and once as the rescuer. The class, taught by Nancy Diers and Jerrod Belzer, also learned about safe water entries and energy-saving floating techniques.
