In response to Mr. Edlin and Mr. Hyde?s letters [Edlin: ?Homophobia has evil consequences,? Dec. 8 and ?All adults influence children bullying gays,? Dec. 29; Hyde: ?Letter on homosexuality reflected bigotry,? Dec. 29].
Are people unaware of the laws of nature? Specifically the natural attraction between male and female? To claim that it is natural to have unnatural desires makes no sense, it goes against nature?s order. Also, it makes no sense to compare a person?s ancestry which can?t be helped to a lifestyle choice that can be helped. Just because someone thinks that they are born a certain way does not make it true. Born gay has not been proven, go to http://www.frc.org/content/getting-it-straight-1.
Some may think that liberty applies to all behavior, liberty is freedom to do what is right which benefits both the individual and society. What liberty is not is the universal freedom to do whatever one pleases. Universal freedom allows people to do what they want and holds none accountable for his or her actions, it is not beneficial to society. This type of freedom is not found in the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence.
Tolerance in America is becoming a one-way street, disagree with the gay lifestyle and you get branded bigot, hatemonger, homophobe, etc. Such labels could encourage hatred and bullying of people who are not pro-gay. Some people should keep that in mind when calling our disagreement bad.
