On March 27 at approximately 2:52 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 Block of E. Washington St. in Mount Pleasant.
The officer stopped a blue 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a non-functioning brake light.
According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation found that the driver, Kelly Allen Smithburg, 49, of Mt. Pleasant was driving a motor vehicle while being in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Smithburg was also processed for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of narcotics.
The report said that Smithburg was subsequently placed under arrest, and transported to the Henry County Jail without incident, where he was charged with possession of methamphetamine second offense-aggravated misdemeanor, possession of marijuana second offense-serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia-simple misdemeanor.
He was also given a citation for open container by driver-simple misdemeanor and was given a written warning for the non-functioning brake light.
