A traffic stop for expired registration tags resulted in a slew of charges for a Fairfield man.
The Henry County Sheriff's office reported that on Friday, July 26, at approximately 12:24 a.m., an officer performed a traffic stop on a black/red 1995 Ford F-150 at the intersection of North White Street and West Madison Street in Mt. Pleasant.
After an investigation, it was discovered that the driver Justin Lewis, 30, of Fairfield, was driving a motor vehicle with a suspended and revoked Iowa driver's license, and was required to have an ignition interlock device installed in the vehicle he was driving, although one was not installed. Lewis was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail where he was charged with driving while license was revoked (serious misdemeanor), driving while license was suspended (simple misdemeanor) and operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device when required (simple misdemeanor). Lewis was also given a citation for operating a non-registered vehicle.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
