BRIGHTON - The expansion of the Lake Darling pedestrian trail is expected to finish by the end of September.
Park Ranger Zach Haworth said the construction team is plugging away at the trail and doesn't expect anything to prohibit the project from finishing on time.
Currently the workers are finishing the east side of the trail. Haworth said on Wednesday he had seen a fair amount of concrete trucks traveling into the park.
After they finish that end, the workers will continue to the west side.
Haworth said there has been good weather allowing the construction team to work.
When finished, the paved trail will be two miles, and with parts connecting to the roadways, a five mile loop will be available to run or bike.
This project would not have been possible without the Friends of Lake Darling, Brinton Trust and the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, Haworth said, adding it is will be a great experience for people.
Friends of Lake Darling awarded DeLong Construction the project construction bid for a total of $125,000.
The project is expanding on an existing paved trail across from the 140-foot ADA-compliant pedestrian bridge, which was completed in 2018. This path will provide access to the organized youth group campsite.
