Traveling team wins season finale

PACKWOOD ? Fairfield?s seventh-grade girls? traveling youth basketball team won its final outing of the season March 9 at Pekin.

The Trojans cruised past both Wapello and Tri-County in the opening rounds to advance to play host Pekin in the championship game.

The two Jefferson County squads produced a friendly rivalry a season ago as the teams split a pair of matchups, and this year?s rematch picked up right where the teams left off.

This time, Fairfield came out strong to take a 17-12 lead initially. Pekin kept the game close and took a one-point lead in the third quarter, but the Trojans rallied back to close out the season with a tournament title.

Roger Drish and Kelly Cecchini coached the team this season.
