MT. PLEASANT — The Henry County Treasurer’s Office have been receiving calls about scam texts that say they’re from the Department of Transportation regarding waivers on driver’s licenses.
“It seems to be pretty widespread based on the number of phone calls we have received,” said Ana Lair, the Henry County treasurer. “Some folks with CDLs have been alarmed as they thought it has something to do with their CDL.”
The Treasurer’s Office advises that the only texts you will receive from the DOT regarding licensing are reminders for driver’s license appointments.
The Treasurer’s Office released the statement below:
“Scam text messages with a link have been reported that appear to be from the Iowa DOT and refers to a waiver on your driver's license. This is a scam and should be deleted. The only text messages sent by the Iowa DOT are appointment reminders for anyone scheduling online driver's license appointments with the Iowa DOT.”
