Trojan girls? tennis buries Bloodhounds; boys fall
The odds weren?t in the Fairfield tennis team?s favor Tuesday, and Fort Madison took advantage to hand the Trojan boys their second loss of the season.

The odds weren?t in the Fairfield tennis team?s favor Tuesday, and Fort Madison took advantage to hand the Trojan boys their second loss of the season.
The Trojans, playing without three of their top six players, fell 5-4 to the Bloodhounds in Southeast Conference action.
?The odds caught up with us as we came out second best against Fort Madison,? said Fairfield coach Bill Sheppard.
According to Sheppard, the meet came down to two critical matches: No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles. Both matches were decided by super tiebreakers, and the Bloodhounds ended up on top in both.
The top of the Trojan lineup picked up wins as usual. Freshman Alexander Punj rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Sam Rieck at No. 1 singles, while junior Sean Soupiset posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2.
The two Trojans also picked up wins in doubles play, with Soupiset and senior Issac Schloss winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles; and Punj and Matt Burnstedt taking a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2.
The Trojans (4-2-1) host Davis County Thursday.
Girls win again
FORT MADISON ? The Fairfield girls? tennis team rolled to its fifth straight win Tuesday, topping host Fort Madison 7-2.
The Trojans won four of six singles matches and swept all three matches in doubles play.
Fairfield?s Haylee Gilpin defeated Taylor Powell 8-4 at No. 2 singles. No. 3 Alex Higdon and No. 4 Megan Palmer also posted wins in singles play. Trojan freshman Karley Williams continued her hot start to varsity action with an 8-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Gilpin and Jennifer Clements teamed up for an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles; the duo trailed 2-6 to start. Higdon and Palmer won at No. 2 doubles, while No. 3 team Williams and Kim O?Carroll combined for an 8-3 victory.
The Trojans (7-1) return to the court Thursday at Davis County.
