Tristan Ledger?s tremendous senior season continued Thursday night with his seventh victory after the Trojans shut out Wilton 3-0.
Ledger was undefeated last season as well, going 4-0 with four saves in 12 appearances with a respectable 3.41 earned run average. The improvement this season, however, is incredible, as he?s only allowed two earned runs all year for a 0.37 ERA.
The senior pitched all seven innings, allowed only five hits and struck out six batters. He threw first-pitch strikes on 20 of the 27 batters he faced and struck a perfect balance for groundouts versus flyouts at seven apiece.
Fairfield managed only four hits in the game, with senior Alex Crile smacking a double while Ledger, Cade Lisk and Austin Simpson recorded the other hits. Cameron Baumann and Kosta Papazaglou coaxed walks out of Wilton starter Jared Townsend.
Jordan Reid had a sacrifice bunt for the Trojans and Giovanni Cingire, serving as a courtesy runner, stole a base. Fairfield scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning.
Fairfield will close out its regular season with two remaining games, a road matchup with Grinnell on Monday and a final home game Tuesday against Oskaloosa.
For postseason play, Fairfield has been placed in substate five along with Fort Madison, Mt. Pleasant, Keokuk, Mt. Vernon, Clear Creek-Amana, Solon and Washington.
Fairfield will host the district 10 bracket, playing Fort Madison on July 15 at 7 p.m. to open the playoffs. Mt. Pleasant and Keokuk will play the early game and the winners will faceoff for the district title on July 18 here in Fairfield.
The substate final will be July 20 in Washington at 7 p.m. to determine who advances to the state tournament.
