The Fairfield baseball team opens the district tournament in Oskaloosa today.
The Trojans (16-19-1) will look to continue their recent success vs. Southeast Conference rival Washington when the two teams square off in the first round. The Demons (19-14) won a share of the Southeast Conference title but lost three of four games to Fairfield and four of their final five games overall. Fairfield, on the other hand, is riding a two-game winning streak after sweeping Oskaloosa in the regular season finale.
The other quarterfinal game in Oskaloosa will pair substate favorite and second-ranked Grinnell (26-5) with the host Indians (9-26).
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be followed by the game between Grinnell and Oskaloosa. The winners of the two games will meet in Oskaloosa again Monday.
