Truck catches fire outside of post office

No one was injured Wednesday when a truck caught fire outside of the Mt. Pleasant Post Office.
The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a call regarding a truck fire outside of the city's post office at 12:32 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Carrie Cooksey-Alvarez, an administrative assistant at the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, said the truck driver and owner, Donnie Hawkins, stated during a 911 call that he heard a pop before his vehicle began to smoke and flames appeared. Cooksey-Alvarez said a cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Hawkins told The Union bought his new, white Dodge Ram in March of this year.
'I just pulled up to the stop sign and when it started smoking, I jumped out,” he said, No injuries were reported in relation to the fire.
