A brake failure caused more than $1,000 in damage at Hawkeye Motel, Wednesday, when a full-sized pickup crashed into the living quarters of owners Gordon and Michelle Olberding.
"If he would have been going any faster, he would have ended up right on top of my bed," Gordon Olberding said this morning.
Nobody was in the residence when the accident occurred.
Olberding said there was damage to the inside as well as the outside of the building.
"It doesn't give on one side without something giving on the other," he said.
In addition to several bricks that were broken, parts of the exterior wall were pushed in several inches. A window was broken and the white window pane had several areas where green paint from the truck was visible.
"I don't know how I can replace that brick [with matching brick]," he said.
Olberding said the damage was confined to the living quarters. The accident, he said, has not disrupted business at all.
