Inspired by the work of Lynne Twist as an author, speaker and global activist, Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy will present his first humanitarian of the year award Tuesday.
The public is invited to an award ceremony, featuring an inspirational talk by Twist, from 7:45-9:30 p.m. at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.
Malloy said he decided to create the award after speaking of Twist with her local colleagues Janet and Chris Attwood, who filled him in on her background and current work with sustainability.
Malloy was impressed by the 25 years Twist spent as director of the Hunger Project and by her efforts to save 2 million acres of rainforest. He said her interest in sustainability fits well with the grassroots effort under way here.
