Two accidents reported on Mt. Pleasant?s east side

Mt. Pleasant Police officers investigated recent accidents in the Hy-Vee parking lot and on East Washington Street.

The accident in the Hy-Vee parking lot occurred on Jan. 12. An investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevy driven by Donald Wells (no address given) struck a parked 2012 Ford, owned by Dustin Polson (no address given). Total damage for the collision was listed at $2,000.

On Jan. 11, policemen investigated a two-vehicle collision in the 1300 block of E. Washington Street. It was determined that a 2012 Chevrolet, operated by Andrew Wagner, Eagle Grove, was westbound on Washington Street. Wagner became distracted by groceries falling from the passenger seat and failed to see a 2008 Dodge, owned by Thomas Murphy, West Burlington, and operated by Carrie Jackson, Ft. Madison, that was stopped in the westbound lane of traffic.

Wagner?s vehicle struck the Murphy vehicle in the rear bumper area. No injuries were reported at the scene.

The Wagner vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damage while damage to the Murphy vehicle was listed at $2,000. Wagner was cited for failure to maintain control.
