Two-car accident Monday on Hwy 218

A two-car collision on Highway 218 slowed traffic in the northbound lane on Monday, June 18 around 4:30 p.m.

Sara Jenkins, of Grenada, Miss., was traveling northbound on Highway 218 in the right lane when she swerved into the left lane to avoid hitting a vehicle turning onto Highway 218 from 170th Street. A second car, driven by Sarah Genkinger, of Ft. Madison, came up behind her in the left lane and struck the rear driver?s side of Jenkin?s vehicle.

Jenkins was driving a 2018 Ford. The accident caused some damage to her vehicle. She sustained no injuries. Genkinger was driving a 2007 Nissan, considered totaled. She had minor injuries. Neither driver was transferred by ambulance to a hospital.

The vehicle that was not struck continued traveling eastbound on Highway 218 and was not identified.

The Iowa State Patrol and Henry County Sheriff?s office was on the scene.
