Two injured in crash near Fairfield

FAIRFIELD – Two people were injured in a collision between a truck and a tractor Friday evening near Fairfield.

According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, the collision occurred about 3 miles east of Fairfield on Highway 34 around 6 p.m. A 2008 Ford F-250 driven by Charles Heisel, 58 of Fairfield, rear-ended a 2002 John Deere tractor driven by Orlado Oregon-Espino, 45, with no city of residence given.

The report states that both vehicles were traveling eastbound, and that Heisel’s vehicle came to rest in the road, and Oregon-Espino’s tractor came to rest in the south ditch. The report indicates that Heisel was wearing his seatbelt.

Heisel was transported by Medforce Aid Medical’s helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Oregon-Espino was transported by Jefferson County EMS to the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Assisting on scene were Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Ambulance, Fairfield Fire Department, Fairfield Police Department and Medforce.
