Two area school boards will meet tonight (Monday) for work sessions.
Mt. Pleasant School Board will meet at 6 p.m., in the High School Media Center. During the board?s meeting earlier this month, the directors agreed to use the board?s second meeting of the month as a work session. During Monday?s work session, the board will discuss content for upcoming work sessions as well as school board development opportunities for the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB). Melinda Huisinga had been appointed to fill the vacancy for District 2. Upon her appointment, Huisinga was to fill the position until the next regular school board election, which would not be until September 2017, or an intervening special election. The new law (HF658), however, states any board member appointed to fill a vacancy must stand for election the very next election cycle.
During the Sept. 12 meeting, the board agreed to allow Huisinga?s term to expire and would then appoint someone to fill the seat for the following 10 months.
Lastly, the board is set to review the proposed superintendent professional learning plan/action plan.
The Winfield-Mt. Union School Board is also set to meet at 6 p.m. tonight.
For the W-MU School Board, the evening?s discussions will revolve around building projects. The board is set to discuss proposals for community engagement planning services from BLDD Architects. A construction project time frame will also be discussed.
The News will have stories regarding both work sessions this week.
