Mar. 5, 2020 12:00 am
WASHINGTON - Voters in Washington and Brighton passed two public measures for the benefit of Washington Community School District Tuesday.
Public measure A was for a revenue purpose statement. A majority of 51 percent was needed to pass the measures did so with 71 percent approval for measure A and 73 percent in favor of Measure B, Phyisical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL), according to the unofficial results from the Washington County auditor's office.
Superintendent Willie Stone said both measures will go toward improvements to transportation, infrastructure or in the case of the PPEL for upgrades to technology.
PPEL will be extended for another 10 years and will levy $1 per $1,000 of assessed valuation of property within the district, according to the results. Stone said this was already in place and this measure will simply extend the tax, not raise it. Of the 6,905 registered voters in the Washington, Brighton and Absentee precincts, only 143 voted, 2.07 percent of all total voters.
