KELLY SPEES
Kelly Spees has been interested in the Jefferson County Recorder?s Office for quite some time.
?I always felt that my years of customer service experience provided me with a positive and friendly atmosphere for those needing services of the recorder?s office,? said the Democratic candidate. ?I find it a great opportunity to work with the public and perform a variety of functions.?
Spees cited transferable skills from her years of experience handling clerking, accounting and cashier duties for Spees Auction, a business she owns and operates with her husband Rick. Through that work, Spees is already familiar with a number of the people she will interact with in the office, as well as researching and filing county records.
Spees also has worked in various positions, currently as manager of the apparel department, at Walmart. That experience has led to familiarity with the new machine used to process hunting and fishing licenses, as well as the procedure for filing reports with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
As a manager, Spees is comfortable delegating duties and working as a team, which she feels will be essential in the recorder?s office.
Spees is committed to ?honoring the trust the public expects of this office.?
Everyone entering the office should be treated with courtesy and respect, she said. ?
Kim WINSLOW
If elected Jefferson County recorder, Kim Winslow will strive to provide top-notch customer service.
?Everybody should feel comfortable walking into that office,? Winslow said.
She believes it?s important to treat anyone coming into the office with respect ? to treat them the way she would want to be treated. That?s a talent she?s demonstrated in the offices at Lincoln and Pence elementary schools, where she believes visitors, the 340 students and the 57 staff feel welcome.
She also believes it?s important to elect a recorder who?s committed to the job.
?I believe in hard work and professionalism,? she said.
Accuracy is another skill she cited as being extremely important to the position.
The Republican candidate pointed out her political views have no bearing on how she would perform in the office. The recorder?s duties are dictated by the state.
If elected, Winslow intends to give the Fairfield Community School District her notice and then job shadow in the recorder?s office for as long as possible.
Winslow was first approached about the idea of running for recorder about a year ago. She discussed the pros and cons with her family, then learned shortly thereafter of the possibility that Lincoln school might close.
Winslow felt she was ready for an opportunity to advance her career ?
