Two people were injured, and a car and a tractor were totaled in a wreck on Highway 1 south of Kalona on Saturday.
At 5:33 p.m., Saturday, Washington County dispatch received a call about a two-vehicle accident at Highway 1 and 140th Street, near the Kalona Golf Club.
According to a preliminary accident report from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, a Case Model 2394 farm tractor with an auger implement attachment was traveling north on Highway 1 when it stopped to wait to turn left on 140th Street.
The tractor was driven by a 12-year-old from rural Wellman, according to the report.
At that time, a 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid driven by Michael Weaver of Kalona was also traveling north on Highway 1.
As the Honda crested the hill, it struck the rear of the stopped tractor.
Weaver and his juvenile passenger were both transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by the Washington County Ambulance. They were both wearing seatbelts.
The parent of the juvenile driving the tractor declined medical assistance.
Investigators determined that the tractor's flashers and turning signals were not operational, and that no light or slow-moving-vehicle triangle were on the rear of the tractor.
Sunset was at 4:53 p.m., about 40 minutes before the accident, according to the report.
Charges or citations are pending the completion of the investigation.
Sheriff Jared Schneider said he had no additional information on the accident as of Monday afternoon.
The Kalona Fire Department, Kalona QRS, Washington County Ambulance and Earl's Towing all assisted at the scene.
