WAYLAND ? Asbestos testing will soon be underway on two Wayland properties, according to Wayland City Clerk Beverly Conrad.
On Wednesday evening, the Wayland City Council approved a bid from Asbestos Inspection Test and Training, of Monticello, for testing the buildings at 211 and 213 Main Street. Asbestos Inspection Test and Training?s bid was not to exceed $890 for both buildings.
The council received three quotes, the other two coming from Hawkeye Environmental, of Solon, and ATC Environmental, out of Cumming. The two competitor?s bids were $1,700 and $1850, respectively.
During the meeting, the council also approved an engineer agreement for the Cummings Street Project. The project?s total cost will be $94,500. The project will be done in two phases, over two years. The first phase, which is happening this year, includes replacing the water main. Phase two, which will commence next fiscal year, will include paving the street.
The council also authorized a resolution that would increase the in-city solid waste collection rates. Last month, the city approved a waste collection bid from Wemiga Waste to take over garbage collection for the city. With the new waste company, Conrad said rates increased from $8 a month to $8.50 a month. ?The 30-gallon (garbage) bags went from $12 to $14, and the small 13 gallon bags went from $7.50 to $10,? said Conrad. ?After five years with the same company, we assumed something would change.?
The price change is effective Aug. 1.
In other business, the council:
? Approved adopting a revised policy regarding the use of city credit cards. Conrad said the resolution added one card and removed two others from the city?s credit cards.
? Approved the termination of a septic tank waste contract with Leison Pumping.
? Approved sending Isaiah Stauffer, public works staff, to the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities Natural Gas OQ Workshop on Aug 23-24.
? Approved building permits for Greg Rich, to reroof his house and garage at 113 West Third St.; Anthony and Tammy Alliman, to reside house and replace windows at 111 West Cummings St.
The next meeting of the Wayland City Council will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall.
