University of Iowa Mobile Clinic to visit Columbus Junction this Sunday

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Just 20 minutes down the road from Winfield in Columbus Junction the University of Iowa Mobile Clinic will offer free health screenings this Sunday in the basement of St. Joseph’s Church.

The University of Iowa Mobile Clinic holds free clinics at a variety of sites throughout the year including St. Joseph’s Church at 102 Gamble St. in Columbus Junction. One of these clinics will take place this Sunday, June 23 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. thanks to the efforts of volunteers, made mostly of undergraduate medical students.

The mission of the Mobile Clincs revolves around the value that health care is a universal human right, according to the Mobile Clinic’s website. Services at Sunday’s clinic will include screenings for diabetes and cholesterol, blood pressure checks, health education, and physical exams for children and adults.

The Mobile Clinic seeks to provide culturally appropriate care to a variety of cultures including the mix of traditional rural Iowans and immigrants from Latin America and Myanmar found in the Columbus Junction area.

Additional intentions of these clinic visits include raising awareness of existing health resources, connecting people in the communities served with these resources, partnering with these communities to continually assess and adapt services to needs presented, and advocating for patients in both clinics and the larger social arena, according to the Mobile Clinic website www.iowamobileclinic.org
