With the seasons changing and looking towards the next event on campus, we are getting ready for the Easter celebration. Egg Decorating is taking place and we are looking forward to seeing once again, all the creative works our residents will present.
An Easter Egg Hunt will take place with the UP with Kids Day Care across the campus. We will be having Good Friday Service with Andrew in the Moore Dining Room. Our Dining Services will be preparing an Easter menu to be enjoyed by all.
We continue the Fresh Conversations meetings this month which took place in the Campbell Room.
This month’s conversation focused on easy ways people could increase fiber in their diet. The residents attending the meeting were also able to taste test the featured recipe; a pasta veggie salad made with whole wheat pasta, cut up cucumber, red onion, peppers and tomatoes along with an Italian dressing. The month of April also brings our yearly Senior Fitness Test.
We would like to once again thank the Knights of Columbus for bringing us fish and shrimp on Friday evenings again this season. It was a great treat that many enjoy.
Carol Thornton returned from a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she enjoyed spending time with her family. Five generations were present. Carol, her daughter Judy Leisak, grandson, Joshua Phillips, great-grandson Bryce Phillips, great-great-granddaughter Delia Phillips were able to capture and enjoy the moment.
Linda Boston hosted a pajama party for the ladies on second floor, Kerr Hall on Wednesday, March 16. All came in robes, PJ’s, gowns or assorted lounge wear. Since the party started at 9:30 a.m., fresh out of the oven cinnamon rolls were served with coffee and tea. Fresh spring flowers were the table centerpiece and each attendee had an individual assortment of nuts and a chocolate, too! The group celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and hopefully the end of winter!
Rosalie Ray and wife, Kate McIntyre, spent four days with Aunt Carol Ray. They live in San Marcos, Texas, and spring break seemed a good time to drive up to Iowa. They explored Fairfield, visited the American Gothic House in Eldon, Prairie Lights Books in Iowa City, and Stringtown Grocery.
On Thursday, they stayed in Washington, shopping on the Square and enjoying lunch at Panda Palace where they were joined by Linda Sturdevant, and Julie and Mike Zahs. That evening they dined at Café Dodici. Rosalie, an urban planner, is teaching at East Texas University and Kate is student teaching English classes in a local middle school.
In Brownlee and Garrett the Reminiscing group enjoyed some Girl Scout cookies and some chips and dip. Reminiscing about cars and the different types that they had was a very interesting conversation for all. The monthly Birthday Party was celebrated including one resident enjoying her 100th Birthday!
Card playing has been enjoyed including UNO and Cribbage. Parachute exercise has been a great way to get our movement going.
On April 1, residents Rock Climbed for exercise. Bible study, hymn sing with Andrew and BINGO continue to be some favorites.
We would like to welcome Ron and Linda Newlon to Campus.
We would like to extend our sympathies to the family of Meda Fulton.
Enjoy your week everyone!
