Kickball fans and sports enthusiasts alike can get their fitness fix come September when Healthy Henry County Communities (HHCC) holds a co-ed kickball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19, in Mt. Pleasant?s East Lake Park. However, as it stands, more teams are desperately needed to make the tournament a go.
?So far, only a few teams have signed up,? said Henry County Supervisor Greg Moeller, who also holds a seat on HHCC?s Executive Committee. ?We are hoping for a lot more teams to register so we can have a good tournament.?
Moeller stressed the need for more participation during Thursday?s Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting. The tourney, which starts promptly at 10 a.m., is acting as a major fundraiser for HHCC.
Those wishing to participate must register a team by Sept. 10.
For more information, printable registration information may be found at www.healthyhenrycounty.org or visit facebook.com/healthyhenrycounty. Kelly Carr, HHCC coordinator, can also be reached for information at carrk@hchc.org or 319-385-5623. Registration information is also available at The REC Center, in Mt. Pleasant.
Besides talk of the upcoming kickball tournament, Moeller also updated the supervisors on The Family Connection of Henry County, saying that organization is also looking for participants ? participants in their program that is.
?After recently receiving their official accreditation, they (The Family Connection) are looking to grow their client base,? said Moeller.
The goal of The Family Connection is to provide early childhood educational programs designed to improve the health and well being of expecting women, parents and their children by offering a personal approach to resource connections.
All programs offered are to Henry County residents with children ages zero to five years old. Through The Family Connection, families can obtain information about child development, family counseling, child discipline strategies, parenting support groups and much more.
In addition, The Family Connection has Spanish-speaking staff to assist families and their children. Parenting support groups for Spanish-speaking parents are also currently available.
The Family Connection is located on the lower level of the Henry County ISU Extension Office, in Mt. Pleasant.
The next Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 9 a.m., in the Henry County Courthouse.
