To the editor:
As an extraordinarily accomplished community, why do we entertain a plan to pay increasingly high bills on our water usage (to fix the sewers) without including a water sustainability design and plan?
Between RAGBRAI, Iowa Great Place designation, Best Small Town You?ve Never Heard Of, our own sustainability coordinator, and extremely accomplished students, to name a few, we have the brains to think of ways to include sustainable water and sewer usage in our improvement strategy all while saving money on our water bill.
Rather than hiring those very expensive and obsolete thinking engineers to design our sewer remediation plan, please tap into the amazing experts in our community. MUM, Indian Hills, Fairfield Schools, Maharishi School, EcoVillage and Iowa State University are a few entities who have a wonderful track record in problem solving and creative thinking. Let?s use them and give them an opportunity to get us started in a way to save water, reduce sewer use and put money in the city?s and the citizen?s pocket.
