Van Buren boys finish seventh at sectionals

BURLINGTON ? The Van Buren boys? golf team saw its season come to an end Friday at the sectional golf tournament on Flint Hills Golf Course in Burlington.

The Warriors totaled a score of 381 to finish seventh out of eight teams, beating Mediapolis by 24 strokes. Central Lee won the tournament with a score of 334, and Notre Dame advanced as well with a 344.

Noah Whitten, a freshman, led the Warriors with a front nine of 44 and a back nine of 48 to finish at 92. After shooting a 53 over the first nine holes, Warrior senior Nic Giberson shot a scorching 40 on the final nine to finish at 93. Brandon Plecker checked in with a 95, while both Ryan Nelson and Bryton Woods carded 101s to round out the team score.

Mitch Garrells shot a 119 as an alternate.

Central Lee senior Brian Krehbiel earned meet medalist honors with a 4-over-par 75.
