KEOSAUQUA ? Van Buren High School?s 64 members of the class of 2010 will graduate during a commencement ceremony set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the school gymnasium.
According to high school teacher Mary Sederburg, the graduating seniors will be wearing black robes. The young women will carry daisies, while the young men will wear daisy boutonnieres. The class flower is the daisy.
The speakers will include top students Whitney Atwood and Ben Moews. Elementary art teacher Greg Jones also will be speaking, said Sederburg.
The ceremony will include vocal numbers performed by a senior ensemble and the high school chorus, plus the high school band will play.
The graduates also are planning to remember a former classmate, Darby Gilbert, who was killed in a one-vehicle accident in rural Columbus Junction Nov. 30. Sederburg said although Gilbert, the 17-year-old daughter of Kathy Goehring of Libertyville and Stuart Gilbert of Stockport, was a student at Fairfield High School when she died, she had previously attended Van Buren schools and had many friends there.
The ceremony is open to the public.
