Van Buren schools begin classes Aug. 20
Van Buren Community Schools begin classes on Aug. 20 for grades kindergarten through high school.
Registration will be held at both centers, the elementary school in Douds and the middle/high school in Keosauqua on two days, 1-8 p.m. Aug. 13, and 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Aug. 14.
School buildings will hold an open house from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 15.

Van Buren Community Schools begin classes on Aug. 20 for grades kindergarten through high school.
Registration will be held at both centers, the elementary school in Douds and the middle/high school in Keosauqua on two days, 1-8 p.m. Aug. 13, and 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Aug. 14.
School buildings will hold an open house from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 15.
Preschool for 3-and-4-year-olds begins Sept. 3.
Children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 15, are eligible to enroll in Van Buren Community Schools preschool program. Enrollment packets are available at both the elementary office in Douds and the board office in Keosauqua. The preschool program is two days a week for an entire school day. The district provides transportation.
Book rental fees for all grades are $20 per student with a maximum of $40 per family.
Supply fees for kindergarten and first grade students are $15 per student.
Meal prices for the 2013-14 school year:
? Pre-kindergarten through sixth grade costs are $2 per lunch; $1.10 per breakfast; daily milk is 30-cents; daily juice is 35-cents; vegetables or desserts are 55-cents each; and an entrée/main dish is $1.60. Reduced price lunch is 40-cents; reduced breakfast is 30-cents.
? Grades seven through high school students will pay $2.10 per lunch; $1.10 per breakfast; daily milk is 30-cents; vegetables or desserts are 55-cents; and an entrée/main dish is $1.60. Reduced lunch is 40-cents.
? Adult meal costs are $3.15 for lunch and $1.50 for breakfast.
Activities admission fees are $5 for adults and $3 for students per game for all varsity sports; $3 for adults and $2 per student for all junior varsity or freshmen/sophomore games; and $2 for anyone for all junior high school events.
Season ticket passes are $70 for adults and $30 for students and senior citizens age 55 and older.
The district website www.van-buren.k12.ia.us has school insurance coverage costs and benefits.
Cardinal registration Wednesday
Cardinal Community School District students will attend the first day of classes Aug. 20.
Registration for the 2013-14 school year is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and available on the district website at www.cardinalcomet.com through PowerSchool.
The district meet and greet is 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 19, the evening before school starts.

Pekin registration
Monday and Tuesday
Pekin Community School District?s first day of school for students is Aug. 21.
Registration is noon to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the K-12 Media Center. Supply lists for all grades are available on the district website www.pekincsd.org. Students are asked to bring school supplies to the open house from 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 19.
