Van Buren to host candidate forum
Oct. 3, 2022 12:15 am
KEOSAUQUA — Rural voters will have the opportunity to have their questions answered by the candidates for Van Buren County Board of Supervisors and County Treasurer during a Candidate Forum that will be sponsored by the Van Buren County Farm Bureau.
This event will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Roberts Memorial Building in Keosauqua. The forum will focus on rural issues facing the county. All supervisor and treasurer candidates are invited to attend this event, which is free and open to the public.
Two supervisor seats are up for grabs, and voters will have to choose among four candidates: incumbent Republicans Dale House and Mark Meek, Democrat Diane Carr, and independent Robert Waugh. For treasurer, voters will choose between incumbent Democrat Linda Whitten and Republican Vicki McDonough.
“This forum will not be a debate, but an opportunity for community members to meet each candidate, which will give their positions on rural issues,” stated a news release from Farm Bureau.
Questions from the community are encouraged and will be accepted by email at vanburen.county@ifbf.org, or written submission during the forum.
Approved questions will be read to the candidates by a moderator. Questions considered one sided or threatening will not be used.
“The Van Buren County Farm Bureau understands that harvest is quickly approaching but hopes farmers will be able to take the time to learn more about the candidates for Van Buren County Supervisor and Treasurer on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.,” read the news release.
