KEOSAUQUA ? In what could be their first of two matchups in under a week, Van Buren bested area rival Pekin 67-60 in SEISC shootout action Friday.
The Warriors (15-6, 13-5 SEISC south) and Panthers (16-5, 14-4 SEISC north) started out hot in the first quarter, with Pekin grabbing a 21-20 lead. Van Buren scored another 21 in the second quarter to take a 41-34 advantage into halftime and held on for the seven-point home victory.
Colin Weaver led Van Buren, which has won eight straight entering district play, with 22 points. Zach Boyd scored 14, and Elliott Remick, Blake Scott and Dalton Stine added 10 points apiece.
Pekin senior Trey Sathoff scored 20 points with 12 rebounds as the Panthers? losing skid hit two games. Tater Clubb had 13 points, nine boards and three blocks; and Tyson Lamb and Graham Wittrock added nine points each. Nate Buch fed the offense with three dimes.
A second date between the teams will occur if Van Buren gets past Central Lee to open the postseason today. Pekin, which has a first-round bye, would host the Warriors Thursday in the district quarterfinal.

Wapello 58, MSAE 34
Wapello scored 19 straight points to close out the third quarter and came away with a 58-34 shootout victory over Maharishi School on Friday.
Wapello led 19-10 over the Pioneers at halftime. Maharishi School made the first two buckets in the third quarter to come within four, but the Indians closed the quarter on a 19-0 run.
Maharishi School?s Paul DeAngelis recorded a season-high 16 points along with three assists. Suraj Rao put in eight points and was 2-for-2 from 3-point land. James Francis scored five. Dillon Evertsen was active in the paint with six rebounds.
The Pioneers (1-20, 1-17 SEISC south) kick off the postseason today at Harmony.
Highland 83, Cardinal 71
ELDON ? The Highland boys? basketball team scored another win for the SEISC north with an 83-71 shootout victory over Cardinal Friday.
Despite taking a five-point lead after one quarter, the Comets encountered a hot-shooting Huskies squad in the second quarter and never recovered. Highland led 39-31 at halftime and kept up the fast tempo scoring 44 in the second half.
Cardinal senior Austin Roe scored a team-high 20 points, Jonathan Pedersen added 19 points and seven rebounds and Cody Carter scored 11. Dakota showman had seven points and three dimes while Jimmy Edwards was active in the paint with nine rebounds.
Cardinal (6-15, 5-13 SEISC south) opens district play tonight vs. Eddyville-Blakesburg.
