Vandals broke windows at both the Fairfield High School and the Roosevelt Community Recreation Center over the weekend.
Aquatic center staff discovered the main window near the spa had been broken after arriving around 5 a.m. today to open the pool. Fairfield Park and Recreation Director Derik Wulfekuhle said the vandalism occurred sometime after 8 p.m. Sunday.
Because no brick or rock debris was found at the scene, Wulfekuhle said police suspect the window was broken with a bat or stick. The pool will remain closed until the broken glass is cleaned up, and the spa will remain closed until the window is replaced ? tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.
Approximately three weeks ago, vandals broke the outside pane of glass to the same window, Wulfekuhle said. The estimated cost to replace the window is $500 plus labor.
Approximately five windows were broken at the high school late Friday or early Saturday. Superintendent Don Achelpohl said the vandals do not appear to have gained access to the building.
An investigation is under way. Capt. Tony Hammes said the Fairfield Police Department is interviewing suspects, and no charges have been filed at this time.
Hammes does not believe the incidents are connected.
