WASHINGTON — On Monday morning, emergency crews were called to the UP Home campus in Washington when a vehicle crashed into a home.
Around 9:15 a.m., Washington County dispatch received a call reporting a gaping hole in a house at 33 Elm Lane on the UP Home campus following a loud noise. A second caller reported that a car went through the house.
According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Ferdinand Joseph Marie, 87, of Washington was driving his 2004 GMC Yukon southbound on Elm Lane when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle left the roadway and crashed into an occupied residence.
The report states that the vehicle “completely entered the residence and struck an occupant before coming to rest inside the structure.”
The occupant of the home, who was not named, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City by the Washington County Ambulance Service.
Iowa State Patrol, Washington Police Department, Washington Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Ambulance Service all responded to the call.
The accident remains under investigation, according to the Iowa State Patrol report.
