A driver was cited for failure to maintain control of their truck after hitting a utility pole and stop sign head-on at the corner of North 12th Avenue and East Seventh Street in Washington Monday afternoon.
“They were traveling on North 12th, they were southbound, and went off the roadway,” Washington Police Chief Jim Lester said. “There was damage to the Alliant pole, a Mediacom box, and a stop sign was also struck.”
Police cited Angel Lopez Bahena of North Liberty for failure to maintain control.
Lester said the incident did not cause any injuries or power outages, but did knock out the utility line, which was “emitting sparks” according to a county accident report.
“The accident completely broke the pole off, so they had to completely replace the pole,” Lester said. “It took them some time to do that.”
