Three Washington High School students were injured in a single vehicle accident in rural Washington County Friday.
Just before 2 p.m. Friday, Washington County Dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle accident with multiple rollovers at 2555 285th St., between Washington and Crawfordsville.
The three females occupants were all ejected from the vehicle.
According to the report, one victim complained of severe back pain and could not feel her legs.
The other two were on the ground injured but conscious.
Washington EMS, Washington Fire, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies, Iowa State Patrol and Air Care all responded to the scene.
All three victims were transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics — one by helicopter and the other two by ambulance.
The names of the victims were not released.
On Saturday, Washington High School posted an update on its Facebook page.
According to the post, one student sustained a broken vertebra in her neck, a broken pelvis and collarbone as well as four broken vertebrae in her lower back.
“She is not paralyzed,” the post stated.
Another student has a fracture of the lumbar spine, a bruised lung and a possible fracture of the left hip.
“She has had surgery to fix the L1 fracture,” the post said. “She is doing well and completed her first walk around the room.”
A third student sustained multiple injuries but is recovering in the hospital.
The Iowa State Patrol is handling the accident investigation.
