Veterans Day events in Washington County

Washington
On Nov. 8, Washington’s Leon Beatty Post 29 of the American Legion will host programs at Halcyon House at 10 a.m., UP Home at 1:30 p.m., and present flags to veterans at Aspire of Washington the same day.
Legion Post 29 will also host programs on Veterans Day Nov. 11, including the following:
- Presenting the National Colors at Hy-Vee along with the Washington High School Band playing the national anthem for their Veterans Day Breakfast.
- A service at Blair House at 10 a.m., featuring guest speaker State Rep. Heather Hora, as well as Brian Pierson’s rendition of God Bless America and the national anthem, and a rifle salute at 11 a.m.
Cornerstone Church will host a Veterans Prayer Breakfast Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8-10 a.m. Admission is free for each veteran and one guest. The church asks those interested to register ahead of time by calling 319-653-5678 or emailing Cornerstonecogpastor@gmail.com
Wellman
The Mid-Prairie FCCLA Chapter will hold its annual Veterans Day luncheon and assembly Monday, Nov. 11 at the Mid-Prairie High School gym in Wellman, starting at 10:30 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to bring one or more guests to the event. RSVPs are requested by emailing sorourke@MPHawks.org, or calling 319-646-6091.
Until Nov. 30, the Wellman Rotary Club is collecting donations of travel-sized hygiene items like shampoo, deodorant, shaving supplies, body lotion, nail clippers, toothpaste, plain T-shirts, and socks for the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. Drop-off spots include Freeman Foods, Wellman Cooperative Telephone Association, Wellman City Hall, and the city’s Hills Bank and Federation Bank locations.
Riverside
VFW Post 6414 will perform a flag ceremony outside the Riverside Casino Main Entrance at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11. Riverside Casino will also offer a free lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day, according to its event calendar.
