The Knights of Columbus Hall in Washington came alive the evening of Oct. 9, with the sounds of rustling plastic aprons and gloves and the seemingly endless requests for “More rice, please!” or, “We need more beans here!” as 100 volunteers from around the Washington Community, in conjunction with the nonprofit group Take Away Hunger, packaged 10,500 meals.
These meals are likely to go to Ukraine, Haiti or the Southeast U.S. as part of flooding relief efforts.
“Using a staggered start time, we were able to get the 10,500 meals packaged and loaded into the trailer, the hall cleaned and everybody back home by 8 p.m.,” said event organizer David Capper. “The project went very well and we were very thankful to all the volunteers who came and helped make this event successful.”
