Volunteers spruce up Fairfield Loop Trail
FAIRFIELD – A group of volunteers is sprucing up the Fairfield Loop Trail.
A group supporting the Jefferson County Trails Council is working on two projects on the trail, one is replacing damaged planks in pedestrian bridges and the other is painting privies.
A.J. Steiner, Dick Arnold and Ron Blair replaced 24 planks on the Lamson Woods bridge Saturday. That same day, Chris Hallinger and Jeff Fitz-Randolph painted and cleaned up the privies on the trail at Lamson Woods and at Pleasant Lake.
Those two are planning to put a second coat of paint on this weekend. Blair said the bridge-repair group will work on two more bridges this weekend, too, one at Chautauqua Park and the other over the spillway at Pleasant Lake.
'The city and county do their share of maintenance on the trail, but it needs help from volunteers,” Blair said. 'The city and county have a lot to take care of with all their parks.”
Blair said the bridge at Lamson Woods is 15 years old and some of its planks were cracking, so the volunteers replaced them.
