WASHINGTON - Washington County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Dan Widmer is reminding eligible electors who want to vote in the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election in Washington County and who are not yet registered that they should register on or before the Oct. 21 deadline for pre-registration.
Iowa law allows eligible persons to register to vote and to cast a ballot on election day if they are able to provide proof of both their identity and residency at their polling place; however, with the convenience of being able to register and vote at the polls on the same day comes potential confusion and check-in backlog.
To avoid delays caused by filling out registration paperwork at the polling places, it is recommended that eligible voters make every attempt to register with the Auditor’s Office prior to the close of pre-registration which is 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. Worry-free postmark deadline is Monday, Oct. 21.
Persons who are already registered to vote in Washington County do not need to re-register to participate in this election.
Voter registration forms can be obtained or online registrations can be filled out through our website at http://washingtoncounty.iowa.gov, or voters may register directly at the Washington County Auditor’s Office. Auditor’s Office hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone with questions should contact the Washington County Auditor’s Office, 319-653-7717.
