WASHINGTON — Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. for a special election in Washington on Tuesday, April 30, that will decide Washington’s next mayor through the end of 2025, finishing the term of recently resigned Mayor Jaron Rosien.
County officials say they’ll have two polling places for the special election: residents of the city’s first and second wards will vote at the new Washington YMCA, in a community room on the building’s west side. Those in wards three and four will vote at the lower level of Dallmeyer Hall, in the Eash Banquet Hall, a change from previous years when they’ve used area retirement communities.
In the running are four candidates: Mayor Pro Tem Millie Youngquist, Washington City Council Member Elaine Moore, Council Member and Business Owner Ivan Rangel, and Rob Meyer, a property manager and community member. All three contenders say they share priorities for infrastructure maintenance, business development and communication with the public, but at forums and in interviews, they’ve shown stark contrasts in conflict resolution approaches, age, experience levels and other appeals to constituents.
