The contest is the Inkfingerz Writing Competition, sponsored by KRUU and 1st World Publishing, both of Fairfield. A panel of judges has whittled down the competition to six finalists.
The six works and their authors are as follows:
? ?Shiny Apalaris? by Rudy Wilson;
? ?Untold? by Amy Spitzfaden;
? ?City of Three Rivers? by Grace Carter;
? ?Home Quest: Banished? by Tom Carlisle;
? ?The Sprite,? a short story collection by John Michael Foster;
? ?On Writing By an Old Novice,? poetry by Emily June Breffle.
The grand prize winner will receive a full publishing, distribution and marketing contract with 1st World Publishing under the imprint Inkfingerz. The first runner-up will receive a manuscript critique from the editors at 1st World Publishing.
The public can vote for their favorite piece of literature in two ways. One way is to ?like? a contestant?s entry on the Inkfingerz Facebook page. Each entry has a link to an excerpt from the book, and a recording of the author reading their work.
The other way to vote is to email inkfingerz@lisco.com indicating one?s preferred piece. Voting continues until 1:45 p.m. Dec. 6, at which time the winner will be announced on Writers? Voices on KRUU.
Monica Hadley, producer and co-host of Writers? Voices, said this is the first time her radio show has hosted a competition of this sort. She said she wanted to limit it to people with a Southeast Iowa connection so as not to be inundated with entries.
The contest entries can be read at www.writersvoices.com/writing-competition.
