W-MU chooses Columbus Community principal to be new superintendent

WINFIELD ? Winfield-Mt. Union, pending school board action, has a new superintendent.

Meeting in special session Friday evening, the W-MU board authorized RG Executive Services, the superintendent search firm hired by the school, to offer a contract to Jeff Maeder, high school principal at the Columbus Community School District in Columbus Junction.

Maeder accepted the position and the W-MU School Board will meet this week to approve the contract, according to Dr. John Roederer of RG Executive Services.

The W-MU board interviewed three finalists last week before making its decision. The other finalists were Gary Benda, middle-school principal at Keokuk, and Chris Anderson, superintendent at Monticello.

Maeder will begin his duties at W-MU on July 1. More on the new W-MU superintendent will be published in Tuesday?s News.
