WINFIELD ? Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District has named an interim superintendent.
Launi Dane, New London, will serve the district on a part-time basis, according to a press release from RG School Executive Services, the firm assisting the school with the search.
At a special school board meeting on July 30, W-MU school board directors selected Dane to serve the school for the 2014-2015 school year, working 12 days in August, eight days in December and 10 days during all other months of the contract.
Dane will also be available to the district on an as-needed emergency basis beyond her scheduled time.
The interim superintendent will begin her duties Aug. 4, and serve until the end of the teacher contract time (end of 2014-2015 school year), but would be available after that and until a new superintendent began in the event of an emergency.
The board approved a pay rate of $485 per day for Dane.
Dane recently retired from Southeast Webster-Grand CSD, where she spent the last four years as superintendent.
Dr. John A. Roderer of RG School Executive Services said 16 candidates completed the application form and the board interviewed two candidates for the one-year appointment.
?Four (applicants) appeared to be viable candidates,? Roederer noted. ?Anytime you have a superintendent leaving in June, it makes it difficult.?
?I thought the search went very well,? stated W-MU board President Klay Edwards. ?They (RG School Executive Services) put a couple of really good candidates in front of us, so it was a really tough decision. I think we made the right choice though.?
