WINFIELD ? The Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District is ready to keep one school repair promise ? fixing the roof no matter if the school improvement bond issue passed or failed.
As the $9.5 million bond issue failed in February, the district is moving ahead with repairing the roof.
School board members met Wednesday evening for a special session to review bids for the project, and if all went well, approving one.
The district received six bids ranging from $164,660 to $196,275 for a dura-last roof, similar to what the district already has. Contractors also submitted bids for an alternative roofing option of TPO.
Cowan Roofing, out of Marshalltown, was awarded the bid. Their bid came in at $178,400.
The company plans to begin the project right after Memorial Day, according to the district?s business manager Carmen Benson. The projected completion date is Aug. 1, 2017.
