W-MU Wolves take care of Eldon, 18-10, in regular-season finale

With the win, the Wolves move to 8-17 on the season and tangle with Danville tomorrow (Tues.) at 7 p.m. in Danville. WACO meets Burlington Notre Dame in the 5 p.m. opener tonight in Danville.
Meanwhile, New London opens Class 1A District Tournament play Tuesday evening at Keosauqua, playing Holy Trinity at 5 p.m. Van Buren and Harmony take the field at 7 p.m.
Quarterfinals in both districts are at the same sites on Thursday, July 17.
In the win over Cardinal of Eldon, W-MU rallied for 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the win. A six-spot by the visitors had made the tally 10-7 leading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
W-MU banged out 13 hits in the wild game. First-baseman Sam Jennings led the way with a double and two singles.
Darren Hunter and Garret Baker each had two hits. Others fueling the offense with a hit each were Travis Jones, Matthew Niebuhr, Kyle Davis, Kolt Rossiter, Riley Heinzel and Christian Fenton.
Fenton earned the mound win, pitching the final inning, giving up a hit and striking out two. Thayne McElhinney started on the mound for the winners, going four innings, striking out four. Baker hurled the fifth and sixth innings and struck out two.
