WAYLAND — The WACO Warriors played solid football on both sides of the ball en route to a dominating 38-13 home win against English Valleys on Friday night.
WACO running back Simeon Reichenbach rattled off three first quarter touchdowns — a 1-yarder, a 10-yarder and a 29-yarder — to give the Warriors a commanding 21-0 lead.
A Jonah Clark interception set up Reichenbach’s second touchdown.
“Our offensive line did a great job,” WACO head coach Chad Edeker said. “Simeon hit the outside zone really well.”
From there, the Warriors never looked back.
The WACO defense continued its dominance over the Bears in the second quarter, holding English Valleys scoreless.
The Warriors finished the first half scoring twice in the final minute.
Drew Diers scored on a 13-yard run with 55 seconds to go, and Reichenbach kicked a 37-yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining to put the Warriors up 30-0.
“Our defense played really well in the first half,” Edeker said. “I was really ecstatic with them.”
Less than two minutes into the second half, Reichenbach scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 29 yard run to extend the WACO lead to 38-0.
With about four minutes left in the third quarter, the Bears found themselves with a first-and-goal at the Warriors’ 2-yard line.
The WACO defense flexed its muscle, forcing the Bears into four straight plays with no gain or negative yards, and the Bears turned the ball over on downs at the WACO 5-yard line.
“That fourth down stop in the third quarter was incredible,” Edeker said. “For us to go negative yards on four straight plays, I thought our defense did a great job there.”
In the fourth quarter, English Valleys spoiled the shutout with a 1-yard Josh Osborn quarterback keeper for a touchdown.
They scored again when Osborn hit Kaden Hall for a 46-yard touchdown pass.
Reichenbach racked up 169 rushing yards on 16 carries.
He and Diers also led the defense with two tackles for loss. Mason Miller had an interception and three solo tackles.
The win moves WACO to 4-0 on the season. They host Iowa Valley (1-2) on Friday, which is the Warriors’ homecoming game.
