WACO, W-MU run at IMS Early Bird
KALONA ? The WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union cross-country teams ran at the IMS Early Bird on Tuesday, but only the W-MU boys earned a team score, finishing seventh of nine teams at the season-opening event.

The Wolves were led by Kollin Lintz, who placed 26th in a field of 74 runners with a time of 19:26. He was followed by Johnathan Quinn, 31st, 19:52; Gavin Benzce, 33rd, 19:54; Kohlton Heinzel, 46th, 21:00; Levi Giese, 47th, 21:03; Tristan Klopfenstein, 53rd, 22:13; and Luke Beard, 56th, 22:28.
The three WACO runners in the boys? race were Dillon Douglas, Mitchell Shaffer and Trevor Lynn, who finished 62nd (24:04), 70th (27:17) and 71st (27:18), respectively. At least five runners are needed for a team score.
On the girls? side, W-MU had two runners and WACO had three.
For the Wolves, Grace Edwards took 50th in a field of 84 runners with a time of 21:08. Stefanie Hewitt-Watson was 71st with a time of 22:51.
WACO was led by Cheyanne Sedlacek in 54th (21:25), followed by Jennie Greene, 62nd (22:04), and Michaela Shaffer, 76th (24:16).
Muscatine had 17 total points to win the girls? side of the meet, and City High won the boys? side with 23 points.
Next up for both W-MU and WACO will be the Van Buren meet in Keosauqua on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
