WACO, W-MU send athletes to state
WAYLAND ? Both WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union will be sending athletes to Des Moines next weekend for the state track and field meet.
The Warriors qualified in three boys? events and three girls? events at the district/sectional meet, which they hosted in Wayland.
The W-MU teams qualified in one boys? event and six girls? events.

WAYLAND ? Both WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union will be sending athletes to Des Moines next weekend for the state track and field meet.
The Warriors qualified in three boys? events and three girls? events at the district/sectional meet, which they hosted in Wayland.
The W-MU teams qualified in one boys? event and six girls? events.
Max Fricke is the lone Wolf to represent the W-MU boys on the blue track at Drake Stadium next week. He qualified in the 400-meter dash with a time of :53.10.
On the girls? side, however, the Wolves are sending a whole pack to the state meet.
The shuttle hurdle team of Shelby Therme, Karlie Wade, Emily Mathews and Cassie Kingery won its event with a time of 1:07.80. Anna Crawford and Layne Davis are alternates for the event. The girls also qualified their 4x200 team of Kingery, Paige Breon, Wade and Mathews, which finished second in a time of 1:51.27. Crawford and Therme are alternates for the event.
Kingery qualified individually in the 100 hurdles with a winning time of :15.36. Heading into the state meet, she ranks in the top five of Class 1A hurdlers.
The Wolves also qualified an athlete in the 400 hurdles; Crawford won the event with a time of 1:09.73.
W-MU?s final qualifier is Lou Krieger-Coen, who won the shot put with a throw of 34-0 3/4.
For WACO, the girls? 4x800-meter relay team of Jennie Greene, Brooke Hammond, Gaby Wagler and Madison Roth took second place in the meet with a time of 10:13.39. Sara Conwell and Jordan Rodgers are alternates for the event.
Hammond also qualified individually with a time of 2:33.57, and so did Rosemary Skriver in the high jump with a 5-0.
The boys qualified in all the hurdle events, as well as the 4x100.
The shuttle hurdle team of Brett Hesseltine, Dylan Carlson, Justin Freyenberger and Christian Roth, along with alternates Alan Hesseltine and Kevin Anderson, are heading to the state meet after running a time of 1:03.08 for second place.
Roth also qualified individually in both the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles. He won the 400 hurdles with a time of :57.25, and placed second in the 110 hurdles with a time of :15.81.
The state meet begins Thursday, May 17, and continues through Saturday.
