Coach Marcus Newsom sends members of his Wartburg College men?s and women?s teams to the University of Kansas Relays and Grinnell College?s Dick Young Classic Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23.
Newsom?s women?s squad kept its spot atop the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association?s Division III computer rankings as the new poll was released today. Wartburg has 222.65 points, 2.07 better than UW-Oshkosh. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps of California, Methodist of North Carolina and Central round out the top five. On the current Track and Field Reporting and Results System?s Division III national performance list, 11 women?s and one men?s event represent the Orange and Black. Top women?s efforts belong to junior Faith Burt (fastest time in the 400), the 4x400 meter relay (fastest) and the 4x100 meter relay (second-fastest), while, on the men?s side, freshman Jonas Elusme has the third-highest high jump leap.
Wartburg?s men?s entries at this weekend?s KU Relays are junior Wendell Booth and Elusme (long jump); junior Mike Koehler, of Washington (400 meter hurdles); the 4x100 meter relay; the 4x400 meter relay; sprint medley relay; junior Jordan Sathoff, of Packwood and Elusme (high jump); Elusme (triple jump); and sophomore Larry Johnson (110 meter high hurdles). Former All-American standout and alumnus Russell Harris is also competing in the 110 highs.
The women?s entries are junior Skye Morrison (long jump and triple jump); juniors Nevada Morrison and Burt (100 meter dash); senior Brittany Melloy, of Mt. Pleasant and freshman Tashina McAllister (400 meter hurdles); Nevada and Skye Morrison, Burt, sophomore Kendra Kregel and senior Jen Ganshirt (400); senior Brittany Thomas and freshman Camesha Goods (100 meter hurdles); freshmen Kaly Adkins and Karly Cochrane (800); and the 4x100, sprint medley and 4x400 meter relays.
Wartburg has athletes competing in the Drake Relays, Grand View Viking Classic and Simpson College?s Kip Janvrin Open over the span of Thursday, April 28, through Saturday, April 30.
